The 2024 Ford Explorer offers eight trims: Base, XLT, ST-Line, Limited, Timberline, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum. The Base trim includes 18-inch aluminum wheels and a black mesh grille. The XLT adds LED lighting, fog lamps, and a hands-free liftgate. The ST-Line features 20-inch wheels with high-gloss pockets and ST-Line badging.

The Limited trim incorporates power-folding mirrors and chrome accents. The Timberline includes all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance, and red tow hooks. The performance-oriented ST boasts 21-inch aluminum wheels and quad exhaust tips. The King Ranch features stone-gray-painted cladding and 20-inch hand-polished wheels. The top-tier Platinum showcases a satin aluminum grille and 21-inch machined-face aluminum wheels.

The Explorer offers two engine options. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine, standard in Base, XLT, ST-Line, Timberline, and Limited trims, generates 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The ST trim features a high-output 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine producing 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. King Ranch and Platinum trims receive a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 tuned for 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. All engines pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, optimizing performance and efficiency.

The Explorer delivers robust performance with available intelligent four-wheel drive with a Terrain Management System across all trims. The ST trim includes a sport-tuned suspension for enhanced handling. Models equipped with the 3.0-liter EcoBoost can tow up to 5,600 pounds, while 2.3-liter EcoBoost models manage 5,300 pounds. Seven selectable drive modes — Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Deep Snow/Sand, and Trail — adapt vehicle performance to various conditions. The ST trim with the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 5.2 seconds. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, with all-wheel drive available for enhanced traction.

An 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3 serves as the infotainment hub in Base and XLT trims, while ST-Line and higher trims feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Tri-zone automatic climate control maintains comfort throughout the cabin. Limited, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum trims include leather-trimmed seating surfaces. Second-row captain's chairs are optional on XLT and standard on ST-Line and above. Limited and higher trims benefit from PowerFold third-row seats. The Explorer provides 87.8 cubic feet of maximum cargo volume and 152.7 cubic feet of passenger volume (146.8 cubic feet in King Ranch).

Ford Co-Pilot360 technology comes standard on all Explorer trims, incorporating pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system. Limited, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum trims add intelligent adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera system.
