The Maverick offers two powertrain choices. The standard setup is a hybrid powertrain that delivers 191 horsepower. New for 2025 is the availability of AWD with the hybrid engine, which enables the Maverick to tow up to 4,000 pounds. A more powerful 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 is an available upgrade that generates 250 hp and is standard with AWD. An optional hybrid engine is very similar to the setup in the Maverick, with 192 hp. Unlike the Maverick, the Escape also offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain with up to 42 MPGe in the city.
Interior
The Maverick is a compact pickup that has a spacious interior with room for five. Its interior is designed for practicality, with standard cloth upholstery, rear under-seat storage, large door pockets with water bottle holders, and a 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat. Higher trims are available with ActiveX upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
The Escape also seats five and is similarly spacious. It excels in cargo capacity, with 34.2 cubic feet behind the second-row seats and 65.4 cubic feet with the seats folded. ST-Line trims include red contrast stitching, and higher trims have similar amenities as the Maverick. Upper trims also have a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is the same display in the Maverick.
Exterior
Being a pickup, the Maverick offers drivers a 4.5-foot truck bed. It has a FLEXBED storage system designed to allow various cargo configurations. The Multi-Position tailgate can be locked half-closed, allowing long items to lie flat. The bed also includes a 12-volt outlet, cargo tie-downs, and a storage cubby in XLT trims and up.
The Escape offers drivers attractive styling, with a modern grille, sleek LED headlights, and available LED light bar. The SUV is available with a panoramic Vista glass roof with a power shade. It’s also available with a power liftgate, making it easy to access the cargo area.
Both the Maverick and the Escape appeal to drivers looking for a reliable and efficient everyday vehicle. If truck functionality is your thing, you’ll love the compact Maverick.
