The Pick-up Truck market is very competitive. With nearly every brand having their own version of the full-sized pick-up, it can be hard to know which one is the best. It seems that every year a new truck is coming off the production line, but a few pick-ups have come to be known as staples within the truck market. The Ford F-150 is one of these trucks. The F-150 has been Ford’s flagship truck for over 40 years and is a proven performer. However, the Chevrolet Silverado has similar accolades. These two trucks have been rivals in the full-sized pick-up market for years, and deciding between the two can be stressful. Fortunately, our truck experts in Silver Spring near Washington DC are here to help. Today, we will compare these two across several categories so that you will have all the information you need to make the choice that’s best for you.

Performance F-150 vs Silverado

Of course, we have to start with performance. For many, it’s the reason they’re looking to get a truck. If that’s why you’re here, you are in luck! Both of these trucks have great performance records. Check out this list of pick-up truck performance specs:

For the 2017 model, our Maryland and Baltimore truck experts pointed out that the F-150’s engine got a big upgrade with a standard Ecoboost engine. This new engine comes with a new block and turbos, as well as a cooling system with an improved fuel-delivery system for improved emissions and more power. The Silverado made a jump in fuel efficiency with the latest model, but to get the most out of this truck you’ll need to make the upgrade to the LTZ option, which sports a 6.2L V8. When it comes to towing capacity, the Ford has a clear advantage. So if you want to do some serious towing with one of these trucks, you might find the F-150 to be the better choice.

Exterior & Interior Design - The big difference between both trucks

The Silverado got a much needed redesign in 2013. The update keeps the Silverado in line with the family of larger Silverado HD Trucks. The exterior is made of roll-formed steel, which makes this truck body extremely durable.

The Ford F-150 was redesigned in 2015 and now sports a clean sheet metal design. The biggest distinction with of the new F-150 design is the all aluminum cab and box. This cuts weight from the vehicle and adds to its fuel efficiency. The new design and the new material gives the F-150 a sleeker look as compared to the bulkier Silverado.

Starting with the basic Work Truck and going into the High Country. The F-150 also has six trim levels. All Silverado’s come with Chevrolet MyLink which allows the driver to connect their phone to the truck’s infotainment system. Expert Reviews

“The latest generation F-150 offers all the performance you need along with a refined modern touch. It has some features such as the Pro Trailer Backup Assist system, a quiet cabin, and all the available luxury amenities you could ask for. Aluminum body panels and an aluminum bed help make the 2017 F-150 the lightest truck in its class, too. Put it all together and you've got one of our favorite trucks on the road.”

Score: 4.5 out of 5

“A wide range of body styles, an impressive interior, and a lineup of powerful and fuel-efficient engines make the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado a solid choice in the full-size pickup class.”

- Edmunds Review

Score: 4 out of 5

“The reason the Ford F-150 rates a stellar overall score is simple: It’s the best full-size pickup truck you can buy. Period. The sophisticated, refined way it does its many and varied jobs is largely why we named it one of our 10 Best Trucks and SUVs for 2017. Over the decades, it has evolved from a bare-bones work truck to a refined and very capable commuter. With an exclusive aluminum bed and body, advanced powertrain availability, and more appearance options than a runway model, the F-150 is the complete package.”

-  Car and Driver Review

Score: 4.5 out of 5

“The Silverado is not our 2017 10Best Full-Size Pickup, but it made the Ford F-150 sweat for the win. The Silverado offers strong powertrains, serious hauling capability, good real-world fuel economy, and a plethora of features, but it comes up short on ride and seat comfort. Its top 6.2-liter V-8 tows the most in the class and wins our highway fuel-economy test. Its brawn is balanced by looks that mean business, handsome interior trim, user-friendly infotainment, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity.”

- Car and Driver Review

Score: 4 out of 5

“The 2017 Ford F-150 ranks 1 out of 6 Full Size Pickup Trucks. Long a dominant force in the pickup-truck market, the 2017 Ford F-150 offers powerful engines, handling that's agile for a truck, and a roomy interior. However, the brakes can be touchy, and some competitors offer more upscale interiors in standard models.”

Score: 8.8 out of 10

“The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ranks 4 out of 6 Full Size Pickup Trucks. The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is one of the burliest full-size trucks you can buy, with class-leading towing capacity and two powerful V8 engines available. It features a comfortable interior and user-friendly technology.”

What We’ve Learned

The Chevy Silverado and the Ford F-150 are so closely rated that it is difficult to come to a clear choice. From a performance perspective, the two trucks can offer relatively similar outputs. Both Trucks will get whatever you need done. With only a difference of around $500, pricing also does not offer a large distinction between the two trucks. The largest difference between the two models is the amount of features, the towing capacity and the used steel. If you are looking for the truck with the most features, then the Ford F-150 is more up your alley.
